Fortnight for Freedom Rosary

When I pray the rosary with my children (mostly at bedtime), we take turns before each Hail Mary to offer an intention. I feel like this is an easy way to involve them in what, in their young minds, can sometimes feel like a really long prayer. It keeps them engaged as they wait to hear what (or whom) each family member has on his or her heart.

Over time, I have come to embrace praying the rosary in this way—even when I am not praying with my children. It takes a form of personal prayer and makes it that much more personal as I pray for something specific on each bead. Sometimes, I end up drawing on something that I may not have otherwise offered because my mind becomes completely intertwined with my heart as I make my way through the mysteries.

It had been on my heart to devote specific time in prayer for the Fortnight for Freedom. Since the rosary is my favorite method of prayer, I wanted to marry those two desires. What I came up with was to invite some friends over and prepare a series of intentions specific to the needs of our country. All of the standard rosary prayers are also compiled in this document, so one may use it even if he or she is new to the rosary. Though we intended these prayers for the Fortnight for Freedom, I think our country could use continued prayers.

Feel free to share, but please, whatever way you prefer, pray for our country and those elected to serve.
